Sweet Spots

Sweet spots

Summer is back and so are all of the places where you can pick up pockets of coins in a short time. These areas I generally call "Sweet Spots" are easy to find and loaded with coins. It takes a trained eye to spot them and a lot of experience watching people play. Parks, especially those parks that front lakes or rivers are especially good. In grassy parks you will usually find "piles" of coins where couples pitched a blanket and spent the day. Note where the grass was pressed down. If you are hunting the next morning the grass will be almost strait again but look carefully and you can spot places where it was pressed down (sometimes the pattern of the morning dew will indicate it). Frequently you will find several coins around these areas and look carefully for rings and jewelry also. The beach is also great for this but you have to be quick the next morning or the evidence will fade away. My home is in South Texas where the summers are broiling hot and couples often find a tree for shade. You can walk through these areas and look around the trees for evidence of activity. For some reason or another there often is several quarters in a single pile and just covered with grass so you won't even have to dig. Digging down here has reached the impossible stage where I quit using my digger and then quit using a screwdriver and just look for stuff on top. Its easier that way too because all you have to do is pluck a little grass and there it is.

There are super sweet spots also but you will have to spend time watching the lakes, parks, and beaches. You will have to work a little for these but they will pay off for years to come. Look for places where people pay for things, drinks, rides, beach umbrellas, phones, or concession stands (preferably located on grass or sand) watch also where folks carry coins onto boardwalks where coins could fall into the water. Remember "It must fall out of sight, either fall in the dark, in dry sand, in grass, or water). People can carry change in their hands with a tray full of hot dogs and drinks dropping change all of the way back to their seat. Teach yourself to look for these things and go where the crowds go. There is that train of thought that says watch for people wearing a lot of jewelry and look after they have left but I will leave that one for others. Women loose less change than men but more jewelry. Observe people who are walking around looking at the ground and remember to check it out later. Don't spend all of your time swinging your loop but take off time just to watch the crowds.

Look for restaurants with boardwalks and tables over sand or water. Sometimes you will have to wait for it to close at the end of the tourist season and then the sand or water under it will almost surely contain more coins than you can retrieve in a day

One final tip, sometimes people will take a cigarette package and stuff a bill into the plastic wrapper so they don't have to carry their wallet to the beach or park and it is a good idea to flip these over with your coil and look to see. It is also feasible that someone at the beach wishing to remove their jewelry will look for something to put it in and stick them into old cigarette boxes or under something where no one will take it. Keep a look out for these and maybe you will be rewarded.
